Andrea Gibson poet and activist sent this email to me and i thought i would share it with you.
Hi Everyone-
I am in Providence, Rhode Island in the middle of a run of east coast shows. I woke up this morning to the heart breaking news that Maine voted to prohibit same sex marriage. I am from Maine. I grew up in a very small, very conservative town in the northeast part of the state. Last night when I was performing outside of Boston a few people in the audience mentioned being from Maine and I was giddy with the thought of sharing a space with folks who may have driven snowmobiles to high school. I love where I come from. I also love where I am today–surrounded constantly by a community of queer people who’s spirits are as enormous as the ocean I used to breathe. I feel a little bit at a loss for words this morning but I am really needing to say something so I am pasting the links to two poems below. I will be performing in Portland, Maine on Tuesday November 10th at the North Star Cafe. 8pm. Hope to see you there.
Andrea
